SETTER FOOTWORK

There are two philosophies in terms of setter footwork coming off the net. Setter’s can face their target or face their passer. Our setters will face their passer.

Coming off the net, our setters will move: left – right – left.

The footwork exercise for setters is movement 45 degrees back, 90 degrees, and 45 degrees forward. Setters will need to do 10 each, one after the other.

MIDDLE TRANSITION

VISION Middles utilize specific transition footwork. Similar to our blocking footwork, athletes will take two-steps and jump.

Key elements include long strides and quick movement. Please remember to have athletes keep their weight back on their right foot to transfer their weight forward when approaching. It will help them accelerate.

3 sets of 10. Half on and half off.

SHORT TRANSITION

It is our expectation that all our middles will be able to transition quickly and approach with a “Short Footwork Pattern” as required.

Please note that the left-step is not a step but a “pre-step.” Athletes must then hop to their two-foot take-off. The middle back-swing is also different from that of outside hitters. The arms must be bent to allow for a quick arm draw so the hitting hand can be up and ready to hit the quick set.

3 sets of 10 reps.
